Whew, It seemed like a long journey to get to this point. I have time to learn something here. I have a reason, as a result of the quarantine messages on my CA Virus scan report. And I believe in making an effort to find answers before asking for help. So I have poked around and registered 2 or 3 times it seems at various spots along the way. I picked Spudz lace because I saw he/she is a "super Moderator". Go to the top first and then work your way down", is this a good motto :Luck

This site, not just this issviews but the associated branches from CA Security Center seems like the branches of the Japanese manor house/museum not far from here, one branch for each season, So before I venture to ask for an explanation of my specific problem, I would like some advice on how to proceed in reading stuff that will take me from the basics up to some higher level of understanding about .......well about almost any topic, because I know very little about everything.
But how about the CA programs work when they scan a computer? I read the stuff about the false positives on the other place, I don't have that issue, yet. I have files that are quarantined but I have no understanding of why they are quarantined. The simple answer would be because the scan detected a virus, but when I ask for more information about the virus, there is nothing on the CA search engine about these "viruses". So I must not know something basic about how this whole thing works. Can you point out the direction to go in?
Regards from Japan,

Hi KomaGawa and welcome to the IssViews forum.

You will see that I run a stricter ship than CA as security and safety is my concern for all that use this site. My appologies if you had any issues registering here. Pleaser let me know what happened so I can look into it.

Yes I am a Super Moderator at CA but this site is no relation to CA at all. It is personally run and funded by myself for the purpose of helping users make better decisions and where they can also praise or flame their current security product/company without fear of their posts being edited, deleted or the site Admins banning and users ganging up on the individual.

I often found that when CA picked up a threat I would have difficulty locating the information on this too. I often had to use different search routines to locate this. For instance just using the say: abcdef.exe or win32/abcdef.exe etc. In the end I simply googled the info as was easier to find what I was looking for BUT you should also be aware that using this means can lead to further infections or a mountain of other info which may not be applicable to what you are searching for.

To help you better understand what Antivirus software does and how it works please check this Wikipedia article: Antivirus_software

Now onto your issues. Do you have any file names etc for the infections you are interested in seeking info for. I can then point you in the right direction.

Hello KomaGawa. As a member here, I'm wondering why it's taking you so long to reply? Happy trails, Mindblower!

I am also listed as Super Moderator at CA but I am no longer moderating on that site.

With many problems it was often quicker doing a Google, locating your problem then looking for the answer.
Out of interest have you tried to contact a CA technician?

I am now using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010
I run W7 and IE8

Works perfectly and they run a fantastic service.

Ok, slow to respond, you know family and job, well I have been studying the Wiki link and its related links, in hopes of creating a foundation so that I can understand future references and more clearly express what I don't know.

No worries, I know we all have things to do which take time :D If you search Wikipedia based on terms/words (ports, firewall, malware, etc.) which are not familiar, you will fins a great deal of information which will help you better understand what is what.
